Lauren Cattle
Hi! I'm Lauren, founder of Cattle Crafts. I have lived in Somerset my whole life, and now reside in Bath after having moved here to study Fine Art at Bath Spa University in 2017.
I have always been a maker, from the age of 5 cutting and glueing birthday cards for my parents on my bedroom floor, to my teen years staying up until 11 pm sewing myself new clothes. Creating is an everyday activity for me, it’s in cooking, cleaning, and exercise; not just what gets made in the studio.
I believe we are fundamentally creative beings, and everyone has the potential to discover their unique creative fingerprint. Through this process, individuals can unlock a well of inner peace, joy, healing and self-discovery. For this reason, I believe everyone should pursue some sort of creative activity, and at Cattle Crafts we support, nurture and build up confidence whilst rejecting the notion that one has to be skilled or talented to produce art.
I have a desire to support and encourage those who wish to pick up a pen, paintbrush or glass cutter and and try something new. This is what aim to facilitate in my classes; the environment, equipment, inspiration and structure to empower you to pave your creative journey.
As for my personal practice, I love to take on a wide range of projects, styles and disciplines. Exploring new mediums, or challenging myself with large-scale or technically advanced pieces is where I find the most joy and excitement in my work. I love how the creative process can be logical; simply a series of problems to be solved. I love to include aspects of comedy or irony in my work, that help us to reflect on common culture and why we live the way we do. Since university, I have learnt to take art less seriously, to not get caught up in the temptation of being high-brow, and to simply enjoy making for the love of the journey it takes me on.
